Off Camber Racing to Field 5 Miatas in SCCA Pro Miata Cup

Davis, Ca. (April 13, 2005) – Off Camber Racing has announced that they will be putting 5 Miatas on track in familiar offset stripe livery for the West Coast Tour of the SCCA Pro Racing Mazdaspeed Miata Cup presented by Hankook tires. The West Coast Tour kicks off April 30 with a double header at Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca.

Leading the OCR squad into Mazda Raceway will be Off Camber Racing co-founder and principal Justin Hall. Justin captured his first SCCA Pro Racing victory in round 4 of the 2004 MazdaSpeed Miata Cup, and is looking to parlay that success into a season championship for 2005. Said Justin, “2004 was a great success on multiple levels, from my first pro win, to winning the San Francisco Region SM Championship, and being named SFR driver of the year. A huge part of this success was the level of preparation and reliability of OCR prepared Spec Miata’s – out of 16 races my car podiumed 15 times with 1 4th place finish – 9 wins and 0 DNF’s. We certainly hope this level of preparation can propel us to success in the highly competitive Miata Cup Pro series.”

Joining Justin is his partner and co-founder David McAnaney. 2005 will be David’s 4th year behind the wheel of a Spec Miata and his first in SCCA Pro racing. David wrapped up 2004 in style by besting a 53 car Spec Miata field during the Western States Championships at Thunderhill Raceway, setting a new SM track record in the process. “I am very excited to take this next logical step into SCCA Pro Racing – the cars are well sorted and we are certainly optimistic given both Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca and Infineon Raceway are essentially home tracks for our team” commented David.

Off Camber Racing is pleased to announce the addition of Brad Rampelberg as factory driver to the team. Brad brings an impressive pedigree in both open wheel racing and sedans to the table, and is a proven Spec Miata competitor having stepped to the center step of the podium at the 2004 season opening Miata Cup race in Phoenix. “Pro Spec Miata racing is so close in terms of both quality of competitors and parity of cars, the opportunity to run under the OCR tent is one that I immediately jumped at. I am looking forward to working with Justin and Dave this year both on and off the track and helping to ensure OCR cars are a consistently in victory lane.”, said Brad.

Rounding out the team will be Bob Michaelian piloting the white and black #63, and Rob Karges behind the wheel of the blue and yellow #74.

2005 has already started out with success for the team – using the SF Regional at Laguna as a testing opportunity Off Camber Racing’s Justin Hall captured two wins in two races and track record, with Brad Rampelberg guiding his car to second position.

After the Laguna double, the West Coast Tour heads to Portland for a double header with ALMS, and wraps up at Infineon Raceway – another double header with IRL for a total of 6 races. The powers from the East and West will clash at the 2005 Miata Cup National Championship at Road Atlanta with Petit Le Mans.
